Wooden sorting puzzle ‘Maths Steps: Animals’

About the game

Pandas, owlets, little horses and hedgehogs have gathered on the maths steps. Which group is bigger, which is smaller, and how many animals will there be if we add one more? Help the little creatures solve their first maths problems!

‘Maths Steps: Animals’ — a wooden game for learning numbers from 1 to 10. The child counts the animals on the rulers, compares quantities, adds ‘one’ tokens and uses the symbols for addition, subtraction, equality and comparison.

Each new step is another step towards understanding numbers through familiar and funny animals.

In the set

• a 22 × 22 cm board with steps numbered from 1 to 10
• 10 numbered rulers featuring illustrations of: horses, pandas, owlets, cows, hedgehogs, fish and butterflies
• ‘one’ tokens and symbols: +, −, =, <, >

How to play

1. Look at the steps numbered 1 to 10.
2. The child arranges the rulers according to the number of pictures.
3. Make up sums using the counters and symbols: 2 + 3 = 5.

Where to start

Start with the ranges from 1 to 5.

Game variations

• ‘How many are there on the ruler?’;
• ‘Which is greater: 4 or 6?’ — the symbols < and >;
• making a number out of ones;
• first addition and subtraction problems.
